Hard Point System#673

Hello guys, what I want to suggest is a customizable hard poind system, which allows players to edit equipments and weapon presets. Also, this system could solve the problem of dual wielding ranged weapons, giving players the possibility of making more weapon type focused M.A.S.S., and offers more weapon combination options.

Now a M.A.S.S. unit will have multiple hard points, and all weapons will be pre-equipped on these hard points. Different structure offers different hard point configurations, and you can further modify them by certain upgrades in the tech tree.

For example, you get 1 slot for melee weapon, 1 universal slot (melee/ranged), 4 slots for ranged weapon, and 2 heavy shoulder slots for missile launchers (or shoulder/back mounted large guns). You can mount whatever weapon you like, as long as its weapon type fits the slot type. This means, you may take 4 energy guns if you want to.

At the same time, you will have 1 equipment slot for each hand. You can edit equipment presets in the hangar, this means you can now wield 2 single-hand ranged weapons at the same time, even 2 different ones!
(But still, you need both hands of your M.A.S.S. to operate 2-hand weapons, and therefore, damage for 2-hand weapons should need some buff.)

The same goes for shoulder/launcher slots, you can now equip 1 guided missile and 1 nuke at the same time, or 1 missile pod and 1 shoulder/back mounted large canon if the game gets there.

I love this idea of somehting more Mechwarrior inspired where you can equip what you want where you want so long as the boot fits. The problem is that I’m not sure a system like that would be viable for the current game. The Devs have been frustratingly adamant about not going back to redo or overhaul their current system, so what we have now is something that we’re sadly stuck with.

Maybe if MASS Builder 2 ever happens? The first game had a lot of success.

Yes, I also admit that the whole system would probably not come into the current game, but at least I hope dual ranged weapons could be implemented. Maybe also with some ammo pool improvement so that players won’t have to waste some ammo capacity when designing a bullet/beam focused machine :)

Multi wielding weapons have been denied, dual wield range is coming. The idea of at least having different weapons of the same type being wielding has been suggested though for photomode at least, highly unlikey it would be implemented into gameplay but it hasnt been denied.

At the very least, it would be nice to have more control over HOW certain weapons are attached. It feels like a number of the bullet launchers don’t sync up with the shoulder armors terribly well, which is sad.

@Varien / Pink Pyro Thank you! I was not suggesting something like multi wielding (like tactical fighters in Muv-Luv) tho, the hard point is only for players to decide which weapons they attach to the M.A.S.S., or take into battle, like an “inventory”. The number of weapons that players can shoot simultaneously still remains 2 - the number of hands we have XD
