Let me rewrite the English language game script before final release#455

D

For early access it’s not so bad, I have seen MUCH worse even in full-release games sometimes, but before you go to full release you should really get a native speaker (preferably with actual writing experience) to translate into whatever languages in which you want to publish the game. I only speak English, but I speak and write it VERY well. While following along with the story dialogues and reading some of the in-game archives and item descriptions the current translations feel clunky and awkward. I can follow along but there were a few points where I had to re-read sections and make some assumptions in order for them to make sense in English.

Honestly it is not terrible, but I love the concept of this game and I would hate for the full retail version to be adversely affected by some small grammar and translation errors. I therefore offer my services to proofread, rewrite, and improve on your English language story/mission dialogues, knowledge archives, and item descriptions. I will do this for CHEAP (not free because it’s a big time commitment) because I want to see the best possible version of the game at final release. Please email me if you want to use my services in this way. I took some time to rewrite the dialogue from the opening scenes and the first mission as an example, see the attached file. :) If you do not choose me, at least get someone with real English writing skills go through and clean up your translation and grammar work before version 1.0.

Ill let you know that the Sekai Project only works with proffessional translators only, so unless you got a license and such I dont think they are gonna hire you.

They give people licenses for being bilingual?

I’m not asking to translate, I only speak English. Just asking that after you have it translated by your official translator team then you give it to a native speaker to review and edit the translation. Translators are not writers, generally speaking. If they are not a native of the country whose language they are using, they might be 95% technically correct but they will miss the nuances and the result will be dry, choppy, and awkward when an audience from that country tries to follow the story. It should read like a storybook or movie script, not just be a bunch of words strung together in a line. So please have someone with NATIVE language WRITING experience review the translated version of the game’s dialogue and item/location descriptions, and give them permission to do a little bit of rewriting as needed to make things flow better, before the full release. That’s my suggestion. :) Thanks for making a cool game though, I really enjoy playing it so far and I look forward to playing it again when it’s fully finished.

I fully support this as well. The English script needs a lot of work for it to feel like it’s better than a first-pass translation by someone who speaks Japanese natively and learned English later in life. I’ve only been playing for a day or so, and I already want to help polish the script so it actually flows and makes sense.
