[Bug] Issues with the lock-on system at vertical resolutions above 1080p and below 768p#425

While I already posted about it in the Discord server, here is a more formal bug report.

In version 0.4.5 of the game, when playing at a resolution that’s taller than 1080 pixels, such as 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 (but not 2560x1080), the lock-on system behaves weirdly.

  • When not locked on, instead of picking targets that are in front of the M.A.S.S. and/or camera (the lock-on system uses both to pick targets, which IMO should be changed/improved, as per #148), it picks targets that are more to the right relative to the camera/M.A.S.S orientation.

This is not just a cosmetic issue, as pressing the lock-on button will result in the M.A.S.S. locking to the picked target (instead of the one that should have been picked at 1080p, potentially throwing off the player if done in the heat of battle.

See the first three attached screenshots, showing the behaviour when the game is at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K/2160p.

EDIT (2020-09-04): As I tested the game on Linux with Proton, I tried it in 720p just to showcase it running. It happens that the bug also occurs at vertical resolutions below 768p, but with a targetting that goes to the left instead of the right. See the fourth and fifth screenshots showing the behaviour at 720p and 768p, respectively.

  • At 4K/2160p, when locked on, the marker will flicker, seeming based on M.A.S.S. orientation too. See a recording on Imgur as the file is too big for Nolt.
