Ranged Weapon rework ideas#414

Same concept as post #404 [Shoulder Weapon rework ideas] and #311 [Energy drone rework ideas]. This post is to gather ideas on how to make ranged weapons better both bullet and energy.

First suggestion was to turn the current rapid fire bullet weapons into proper miniguns which have a high rate of fire, large magazine followed by a large ammo reserve, low base damage but moderate DPS and possibly make it have a spool up mechanism where its rate of fire maxes out over a short time, its accuracy should also be decreased drastically to fit. The old rapid fire could be recycled into assault rifles or sub machine guns which would have a higher base damage and accuracy.

Another suggestion, would be to allow us to pick which hand weapons are placed in, if its a dual wield, shield or solo weapon. As shields for ranged weapons are coming and it should really be a independent toggle rather than be forced upon every 1H and possibly 2H weapon that is not dual wielded.

Improved effects muzzle flash, gun smoke and firing sounds. Maybe even some sort of casing ejection for bullet shooters and maybe something similar for energy shooters.

Firing styles like sideways shooting, most likely will have no effect on gameplay and is just for asthetics.

Personally, I’d say it would be best to improve single shot Projectile Flight Speed, Soft Lock in RMB aim, take off the acceleration restriction while RMB aiming, get rid of the inability to shoot/shoot straight as you hit the boost and stop boosting.

Also, fix weapon swap. If I hit the button to swap a weapon that’s in the same weapon category, it should just swap, not pull up the weapon I’m already using. Tends to happen on Missiles (though).

These ideas should improve the overall flow of ranged weapons for PvE and PvP.

Gattling guns are NOT innacurate (quite tthe opposite, it is more accurate that your averge MG), contrary to common held beliefs. Nor do their bullets do 10 times less damage. In reality it is a MONSTROUSLY powerfull weapon, but one with two big downsides - ammo doesn’t last long and high weight of said ammo (tough you loose weight as you shoot). Also, reloading takes a while. I want one game - jus ONE - to do this weapons justice.

Doesn’t look like this has been suggested, but I’d like to see two single-shot weapons implemented: one that is higher fire-rate, lower accuracy, medium range and one that is low fire-rate, high accuracy, long range. Essentially combat rifle vs. sniper rifle. If not that, then I’d like to see the single-shot mode reworked somewhat to fit the sniper mind-set a little more closely and allow the rapid-fire paradigm to fall into the “all-purpose combat rifle” style.
